Wichita Wednesday (Feb 10th) - Kristi Fair
Tell us a little about yourself. When and why did you start baking? My name is Kristi Fair and I'm a terrible cook. I'm a wife and a mom of four. It's actually quite a miracle that I've kept any of them alive for this long-feeding them all those meals they require like lunch or whatever. It's not an exaggeration to admit that I'm a terrible cook. Anyone who knows me would tell you that...but baking, that's something for whatever reason, I've figured out how to do! I started baking sugar cookies one year ago. It was my sister's surprise birthday, so I attempted to make cookies because I thought, naively, that $40 per dozen was too expensive for sugar cookies! For the record, it's not! One of my best friends gave me her sugar cookie and icing recipes and I made that first batch. Oh my goodness, they looked terrible, but they tasted great so I was encouraged to keep trying! Covid came into our lives right after that, so making cookies became my Covid hobby. All my friends and family will tell you that I'm cranky and mean when I'm not creating so here we are. I've figured out how to decorate cookies by watching YouTube and learning from the amazing cookiers on social media who are kind enough to share their secrets and tips. What is one Cake Stuff item you cannot live without?CK almond extract for the win!If you could bake/decorate with anyone famous who would it be?Julie Andrews. She wouldn't have to bake though, she could just sing Mary Poppins songs while I made her something delicious!Do you have a local baking business, or do you just bake/decorate for fun?My husband and I have prayed and have had many conversations about this. We have decided that it is way more fun and practical to give my cookies away. It has been a super fun adventure, learning this skill, and I love loving people through cookies. Especially now, with social distancing. I can just drop off cookies with a prayer and a smile and hope someone's day is better because of it. My Instagram handle is @thatsnotfaircookies. I share all my cookies there to have them all in one place and to keep me accountable to the progress I've made.
