Wichita Wednesday (May 19th) - Laurevel Sberra-Smith
Tell us a little about yourself. When and why did you start baking?Hello! I'm the one and only Laurevel Smith, from Newton, KS. I'm just a homesick Texan who seriously missed pan dulces, aka Mexican sweet breads, while adjusting to life in Kansas. After a few years, I realized that if sweet breads were still on my mind, they were still in my heart. And, so I decided to become a vendor with the Harvey County Farmers Market to share a little bit of home and my love of pan dulces with the community through Pan-tástico.What is one Cake Stuff item you cannot live without?I cannot live without Cake Stuff's sprinkles and their line of LorAnn oils! I love the variety, which allows me to give traditional pan dulces a unique twist. If you could bake/decorate with anyone famous who would it be?I would love to work with Nick Makrides, from The Scran Line. His desserts/designs are awe-inspiring masterpieces! I love staying up late at night to watch all his decorating videos...they totally give me sweet dreams!Do you have a local baking business, or do you just bake/decorate for fun?I have a home based bakery, Pan-tástico! You can also find me as a vendor at the Harvey County Farmers Market. I love to bake traditional and not so traditional Mexican sweet breads and more (cupcakes, puppy chow, pretzel rods, cocoa bombs, pies...) I love keeping up with dessert trends and adding Tex-Mex touches inspired from my hometown of Corpus Christi.
