Wichita Wednesday (May 12th) - Amanda Field

Tell us a little about yourself. When and why did you start baking? My name is Amanda Field and while I was born in Kansas, I didn't live here most of my life. As a young adult, I was drawn back here and shortly after met my now husband of 5 years. We have a darling baby girl who is my inspiration and motivation. I started baking with my grandma when I was a kid. I loved spending time with her in the kitchen and learning what I could from her. I hope to carry on her memory with my cooking and baking. What is one Cake Stuff item you cannot live without?I love the variety of extracts and emulsions, it allows me to get really creative with flavors! Best sprinkle selection in town too! I love the variety of extracts and emulsions, it allows me to get really creative with flavors! Best sprinkle selection in town too!If you could bake/decorate with anyone famous who would it be?Definitely Sally McKenney of Sally's Baking Addiction! She is my baking role model. I stumbled upon her Instagram page and loved everything I saw and immediately wanted to bake it all. She focuses on the importance of flavor and method first and appearance second which I really appreciate. I've learned so much from her and would LOVE to spend a day in herkitchen with her!Do you have a local baking business, or do you just bake/decorate for fun?I had always dreamed of running a bakery, but it was one of those dreams you talk about but know in your head you're never actually going to do it. I had a good job, why do something else? Apparently, God had plans of his own, because in April of 2020 I was laid off due to Covid. At 5 months pregnant, I didn't know what I was going to do. My husband reminded me of my bakery dream, I laughed, but 2 weeks later I was delivering boxes of baked goods to friends and family to get feedback. By the end of April, I had started my Facebook and Instagram pages, @thelittlefieldbakery, and I haven't looked back since! The name was inspired by our little growing family and I am so thankful that this business gives me the opportunity to work from home and watch my daughter grow up. I service the greater Wichita area and specialize in pastry sample boxes and cakes and cupcakes. You can find my entire menu on my website, thelittlefieldbakery.com.
