Wichita Wednesday (June 23rd) - Keri Marsh

Tell us a little about yourself. When and why did you start baking? My name is Keri Marsh and I am from Derby, KS. I am a mother of three and a grandmother of two. My husband and I have been married for 31 years. During the week, I work a full-time job as a Surgical Technologist at Wesley Medical Center in Labor and Delivery. I enjoy cooking, baking, crafts, and making people smile with my ideas and "dabbles." I started cooking and baking at a very young age. I learned how to do everything by taste; so a dash of this, a dab of that, and Voila! I started to plan weddings and large events about 10-15 years ago when I was asked to do a "Jam Box" cake for a friend's daughter. Since then my skill level has increased, but I am definitely NO PROFESSIONAL. I tell my customers that I just "dabble." When I retire I would love to have an event planning business along with my cake decorating. When people reach out to me to do a cake I usually have them send me an idea of what they are thinking. I try not to replicate any of my cakes or someone else's because I like to make people something unique and all their own. What is one Cake Stuff item you cannot live without? The one baking item I cannot live without is my mixer, she is my baby! She has made many different items and we work well together; however, the ONE Cake Stuff item I love is the Almond Flavoring!! It's my signature frosting ingredient that everyone asks for!If you could bake/decorate with anyone famous who would it be?If I could work with a famous baker/decorator it would have to be Duff Goldman because he is unique and does crazy stuff! The imagination he has is incredible. I also would love to work with Buddy Valastro.Do you have a local baking business, or do you just bake/decorate for fun?I do not have a local business as of today; however, I am currently looking into seeing what it takes to get a small business going to help out the outpouring of wonderful bakers as well as the tasters out there.
